My Fall/Winter Reading List

My Fall/Winter Reading List

As we inch closer and closer to the end of the year, it’s time to reflect and revisit my goals. Reading has always been important to me. As a young bibliophile the wonderful world of books allowed my mind to explore beyond the shores of my island’s borders. I envisioned adventures and romances with characters whose personalities were as colourful and unique as my own.

Unfortunately, over the years, my opportunity to read and devour as many books as possible has been reduced to a few books a year rather than the few books a month I normally read. This year I made a vow to rediscover my enchantment and romance with reading and try to read as many books as possible. As such a new adventure and journey was born.

Although here in Jamaica we don’t experience the traditional four seasons of spring, summer, fall and winter; we do have cooler weather around this time of the year. It’s the time of year where you cozy up under a blanket and enjoy the thrilling experience of a new book. Rather than the usual, “must-read” lists, this is a list of books I’m hoping to read before the year ends.

1. GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso

This book has been a MUST READ in my book lust list since it made its debut in 2014. Now adapted into a netflix original series, this book follows the author’s journey from obscure ‘nobody’ to running a multi-million dollar business. After years of hearing rave reviews, I have finally decided to make the plunge and attempt to read this book.

2. Cinderella Screwed Me Over by Cindi Masden

This is another book that has been gathering dust on my virtual bookshelf for years. The title had immediately intrigued me as it mirrors much of my thoughts on how fairytales and now romance movies often set up unrealistic expectations as to how relationships are made to work. Below is the description of the book as the author so describes it.

Darby Quinn has a bone to pick with Cinderella. Burned one too many times by ex-boyfriends, Darby has lost all belief in the happily-ever-after that the fairy-tale princess promised her. She’s sworn off love, Prince Charmings, and happy endings and she’s happy about it. Really. Or at least she was…until she met Jake, her gorgeous neighbor and the manager of her favorite restaurant. But Darby has rules about dating, ones she’s culled from her years spent with so-called “princes,” and starting something with Jake would break all of them.

Charming, fun, and unwilling to give up on her, Jake doesn’t fit any of the profiles Darby has created from her case studies of ex-princes-gone-bad. Finally presented with her own Prince Charming, can Darby take a chance on a happily-ever-after?

3. and 4. The Trials of Apollo: The Hidden Oracle and The Trials of Apollo: The Dark Prophecy

These 2 books come from one of my favourite fictional authors, Rick Riordan. After devouring both The Percy Jackson and The Heroes of Olympus book series in about 2 weeks, I am excited to see what else Mr. Riordan has in store for us in the world of Greek mythology. This series picks up at the end of the Heroes of Olympus series (so if you haven’t read the other 2 series I’d advise you to do so like NOW!) after the greek gods have won the war against the earth mother. Zeus is looking for someone to blame for the war escalating in the first place and unfortunately, our favorite god of healing, music and poetry has got a bullseye right on his back. Let’s join the adventure, as we follow Apollo’s tale.

5. Leave Your Mark by Aliza Licht

Since it’s 2015 release, I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about this book so I’m uber excited to read. Described as not your average advice book, but rather mentorship in 288 pages, this book is definitely a cozy bed buddy to warm your sheets with and I eagerly await my opportunity to begin our relationship.

6. Sleeping Beauties by Stephen King

Admittedly, this will be my first venture into the world of Stephen King. For years, I’ve heard of his skilled prowess with the pen but I’ve never felt an urge to grab any of his books …..until now. This is truly going to be a reading experience for me. Beyond the usual thrill of a new book, this is my first entry and introduction to the genre of horror fiction. Wish me luck.

So there you have it my loves. This is my current reading list that I’m hoping to accomplish by the end of this year.

What about you? What’s on your reading list? Have you read any of these already? Did you love or hate them? Comment below and let’s get this reading conversation started!!!
