Cinderella Screwed Me Over by Cindi Madsen

Book Review: Cinderella Screwed Me Over………. And She Really Got Me Good!!

I’m super happy to bring you guys another amazing book review today. I really hope you enjoy this review. And don’t forget to comment below and tell me what you think. All feedback is welcomed.

A few weeks ago, I mentioned to you that I had created my fall/winter reading list that I’m hoping to accomplish this year. One of the books I spoke about was ‘Cinderella Screwed Me Over’ by Cindi Madsen. It’s a book I’ve been looking forward to read for a long time now and I’m happy to say my goal has finally been accomplished. Yay Me!!!! So before I give my review, here’s a brief synopsis of what the book is about:

Synopsis:

Darby Quinn is finished with love and she has the case studies to prove why. After dating what seems like a string of not-so Prince Charmings; more like Charming frogs to be honest, she’s hanging up her dating boots and putting away her glass slippers for good. No more lauding fairy-tales and happily-ever-after stories for her (or romantic comedies for that matter!). In a way, Darby herself was even once very Cinderella-esque. Having grown up with her 2 (not so evil) step brothers and surrounded by her 7 giants (male friends). But did she get a prince? Nope. Actually she got dopey, gropey, sleezy, jerky and a myriad of other not-so-princely characters.

That was until she met a sexy and charming stranger in an oh-so fairy-tale way (he did return her slipper after all) at her favourite restaurant. Cue Jake Knight, a man that’s so damn gorgeous he makes old ladies swoon and try to set him up with their granddaughters. While Darby prefers to lie ‘somewhere between monogamy and promiscuity’, she might just end up breaking all the rules she’s created for herself after dating a string of jesters and find her true prince. Jake may be just what she doesn’t want but everything that she truly needs.

Has she finally found her Prince Charming in Jake? Will he be her Knight is shining armour? And is Darby willing to take a chance on a happily-ever-after? Or is he just another case study waiting to be written?

MY REVIEW:

When I saw the title of this book, I immediately knew it was a MUST read for me. The title coupled with a vibrant and eye-catching cover of this book had lured me in like a leprechaun searching for that illusive pot of gold. And fortunately, the book did not disappoint. Honestly, Cinderella has always been my favourite Disney Princess and not just because of her rags to riches story, but also because her name is really similar to mine. Yes I know, not a reason to like someone. But what can I say? We bonded!

This book resembles a well-written romantic comedy if I’ve ever seen one. Written in a witty and comedic manner, this laugh-out-loud book will have you hooked from the beginning. It’s one of those books you won’t want to put down and you want more when it’s done.

Darby is like of every girl/woman when she’s been burned a few times and then puts herself on a dating hiatus. A little cynical and determined to protect her heart from further heartbreak. You find it hard to trust again and worse yet love again. However, I did appreciate that she wasn’t just moping around kicking rocks saying ‘men are bad’ but rather she was a bubbly personality with a few quirks that was a great daughter, sister and friend to all who needed her. She’s truly relatable and I couldn’t help but remember a time when I too had somewhat felt this way.

I loved the concept of fairy-tales giving us the wrong idea about love and relationships. And how much she’s so over them (the Disney-type fairy-tales we grew up on and not the original versions like that of Ariel by Hans Christian Anderson where she actually turns into a seafoam and then to an ethereal earthbound spirit after the Prince marries someone else….spoiler!!).

All in all this book has been a wonderful addition to my reading experience. It was lighthearted, flirty, and yet portrayed realistic issues that may arise as a non-believer dips her toes back into the dating pool. It was fun, funny, a little zany yet oh-so romantic at the same time.

MY OVERALL RATING: 4.0/ 5

WHY YOU SHOULD CHECK IT OUT:

If you like a witty, amusing, funny, charming, modern-day fairytale, then this is a must on your reading list. If you were a fan of fairy tales growing up and want an update on what life would be like from a modern perspective then give it a gander. If you love the genre of contemporary romance, then give this book a looksy! If you too thought Cinderella screwed you over, then check it out. Or if you’re just looking from an excellent book from a great author, then this book is DEFINITELY for YOU!!!
